USO Records Crime Fiction

Last night the University of Chicago Symphony Orchestra recorded an original film score by David Bashwiner for the soon-to-be-released independent film Crime Fiction, directed by Will Slocombe. The picture above shows 5 timpani used for an excerpt called "Push" which is a timpani solo scored to a fight between the main character (a troubled author named James Cooper) and his girlfriend. I won't spoil the fun for you, but the title of this excerpt gives a good explanation as to what happens in the scene. Keep an eye out for the movie!

Hey Eric,

Thanks for posting this picture. My family thinks it's awesome (apparently they spend a lot of time googling me, waiting for some glimmer that someday I'll have some potential for some success, somewhere, sometime. And Maestra Schubert is far enough away in the image that they think it's me conducting!).

It was great working with you. The timpani solo on "The Push" is just awesome, and it was the show stopper for those in the audience (the producers, director, and writer of Crime Fiction).

The film should have an unofficial screening in the fall, and I'll be sure to let you know.

Till then, hope everything's well!
